I understand the want and need to help homeless people but damn Oregon is flooded with homeless and it is taking our lovely forests and nice parks into trash and needle riddled spaces it’s disgusting. I was homeless in Portland the shit hole city it is today and never left a disgusting mess everywhere I went. We have abandoned businesses that they can make into shelters but the problem is a lot of homeless don’t want to go to shelters even when they are available due to the fact they don’t want to give up the drugs for the good night sleep or clean washing areas because they will check you for drugs before letting you in. Dogs are dying from simply going for walks and stepping on needles or smelling substances that drop them in the street, it’s horrible and the homeless crisis will just continue as long as rent/mortgages are impossible prices to pay and drugs are all entirely too accepted in Oregon. Yea I feel bad for some people in this video but again a lot you can see are either on drugs now or were when they became homeless. Work isn’t impossible to find so some of the excuses are sad, ( I found a job homeless and provided the local work source office as a address which works) Hope someday we can all find a balance. ❤😢

I've been homeless for 2 years now. I suffer mentally from 10+ years in an abusive marriage. Almost every program I've applied for I've been turned down. Told point blank there are no programs here for abused men.

What I like about this program is that they are not just taking people off the streets and giving them housing to "hide them away." They are actually seeing that this is the first step to reducing some of the life stress for people such as those using drugs, and they are providing supports, and understanding that this is not a problem that will be solved overnight. In fact this is not a problem that will ever be solved in our current western-style society. Western culture breeds feelings of lack of belonging, separation, hopelessness, loss of a sense of being important just for being a human being, and so much more. But this is at least a start, and an acknowledgement of some of the problem.
